We recommend that you allow at least 4 weeks prior to your move for organisation and planning. Moving to a new office should be an exciting time both for your business and your staff, and understandably you’ve worked hard to get to the point you’re at now. Don’t forget to add our phone number to your speed dial for quick access and keep a note of your booking reference. It’s also a good idea to enter the phone numbers for tradesmen such as an electrician, carpenter, or plumber together with emergency numbers for fire, ambulance, and police services. Although emergencies are few and far between in our line of work, it’s handy to have these numbers on hand, just in case there’s a need for us to turn the power off.
Clean and turn off your fridge the night before
You’ll need to empty, clean your fridge, and turn it off prior to moving and this is best done the night before you move. A good tip to keep your fridge smelling fresh is to place a handful of ground coffee or baking soda tied in a nylon stocking inside it. Once you arrive at your new place, turn your fridge back on but leave it for 24 hours before using it, so that the gas inside can settle.
Pack items yourself to save time and money
Since we charge by the hour, some clients prefer to do the packing themselves. Don’t be tempted to place lots of heavy items into one big box or you won’t be able to move it. Instead place light items in big boxes and heavier items in small boxes, to make it easier to move them around and load them into the truck. On The Move Removals has a large range of packing materials available which will withstand transit, including packing boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper, fragile tape, port-a-robes, brown parcel tape, brown paper, marker pens, and tape dispensers. Pack an essentials bag for travel
Moving disrupts everyday living so it helps to pack a bag of essentials to last you and your family for a few days. We’d suggest you include such things as toiletries, toothpaste, toilet rolls, phone chargers, fresh clothes, shoes, and bedsheets. It’s also a good idea to have another bag packed and in the vehicle with you which includes items such as a kettle, paper cups and plates, tea/coffee, snacks, a torch, paper towels, screwdriver, and a can opener. These all come in handy until you can locate and unpack the relevant boxes in your new home.
Pets and children
Moving can be stressful for pets, so try and find a pet sitting service for a couple of days if possible – and that’s one less thing for you to worry about. Children can also get under your feet and naturally, we want for them to be safe. Try and see if you can persuade their grandparents or a friend to have them for a few hours. If not, please make sure that they know to keep well away from the truck. Although we never turn down the offer of any help, we cannot let children help move items.
